Dear Rikki

There is little doubt that a clay plaster will fall off if applied to a lime washed wall

Hemp lime plaster will be a better solution . Once it is dried a clay paint can be applied

Here are a couple of examples of hemp lime being applied to old walls

We are working on a clay hemp solution but it is quite early days and I have not tried applying it to a wall that has already been lime washed

However, although the existing finish is quite irregular, most of the stones are covered with lime or lime wash. Has anyone tried sticking a clay plaster on top of lime? I have never done that. I am worried that over time it will fall off.
