[GSBN] Request for Help in Kenya

Hi Bob and Et al,

I can chime in a bit about this. I have been working with Michael Spencer,
he has volunteered with our organization Red Feather Development Group three
times to start learning straw bale and I traveled to Kenya this past spring
to lead the construction of three straw bales there. Just last week I got an
email connecting me with a sixth year architect student from Nairobi also
interested in straw bale. I hope to be heading back to Kenya this
winter/spring to continue working with Michael Spencer and the local
Kenyans. The potential is great to create some very affordable homes down
there.

Finishing another straw bale right now.

Mark

Joyce,

The Bale Community has something of a representative in Kenya, as it
happens: Michael Spencer <michaelspencer1987 at gmail.com> , a young American
architectural graduate, has been building bale projects there the last few
years, occasionally getting advice from me and John Glassford.

I will forward this inquiry to him.

Bob

access issues to The Last Straw journal.

Dear Joyce,
The materials are amazing, how can we partner with your organisation here in
Kenya?
Thanks
Wilson Ouma

Dear Friend,
I came across information about publication known as The Last Straw - The
International Journal of Straw Bale and Natural Building.
I am one of the founding members of PALUOC, a community based organisation
operating within Kisumu County. Our target beneficiaries are poor and
marginalized members of the community.
Currently we are running a carpentry and joinery training programme
targeting orphans and vulnerable children. We are keen on giving our
trainees some skill on building and construction so that they can be more
self-sufficient in the training. We hope also to use their expertise as
organisations artisans/technician who will be involved in building low-cost
houses to our beneficiaries once the project kicks starts.
Currently we are seeking partners to work with our organisation in this
project. We would be very glad also to get The Last Straw - The
International Journal of Straw Bale and Natural Building especially if we
can get your back 40 issues on a fully-indexed, searchable CD-ROM
I am humbled for the good work you are doing and we would feel so privileged
to partner with you and your organisation.
Thanks
Wilson Ouma
