There is a system of cleaning call Green Clean in the Uk

this web link takes you to our local company but a similar system must  
be available down under

they use low pressure warm water and volcanic dust most of which can  
be recovered

It is meant to be non destructive but I cannot say that I have any  
experience of it being used on lime renders
