G 'day Lars et al

Dr John Zhang is the gentleman's name, together with Mike Faine. John Zhang
is still at the University of Western Sydney and can be contacted on:

"John Zhang" <j.zhang at uws.edu.au>,

My feelings and observations are that you can spray and we do spray renders
lime and earth and they will penetrate the bales as Matt says all depends on
the density of the bales as to how deep the render goes in.

It is also my belief again from observations that render does creep and even
by as much as 7-8mm over a wall 2.4 m high. We did carry out an accelerated
creep test at the UNSW in Sydney some years ago now with cement renders.
The 7mm gap occurs at the top between the render and the top plate. So how
does the render support the roof plate? I do not think that it does. I
still feel that the bales do all the work.

John Zhang and Mike wrote a paper on their tests and I have a copy but not
with me, as we are currently building a straw bale hangar for a client for
his light plane see our web site for progress over the next few weeks. It
will be a hybrid building.

Anyway my 2 bobs worth.

Lars come and say G ' day one day we now have 14 SB buildings in Ganmain
love to meet the family!.

Kind regards
