*Help wanted regarding strength parameters for earthen slabs.*

We are trying to get permission for a family house where instead of a
concrete slab we will use a local product consisting of 0-8mm sand
particles with clay.

We have used it in many buildings, it works, but we have never documented
it officially.

I have asked the engineer what exactly he needs to sign this off in a legal
manner.

Can anyone help ?

Earthen floors

A single-family house is designed where the usual concrete slab is replaced
with an earthen (clay) floor laid on top of a layer of crushed seashells
used as insulation. Our main issue is how well this earthen floor can be
used to transfer horizontal wind forces, as these are usually transferred
by a concrete slab.

Regarding this we have a couple of questions:

What strength parameters do we have for these kinds of floors? -  Such as
the characteristic compressive strength, Youngs’ modulus etc.

Can the earthen floor slab be assumed to work as a diaphragm like a
concrete slab, or is it unable to transfer horizontal forces?



We have provided a sketch of what we mean by the horizontal wind being
transferred through the slab
