[GSBN] Sodium silicate in earthen plaster

Hello friends,

I’m looking for any more scientific analytics on the use of sodium silicate
in use in stabilizing or adding resilience to earthen plasters. We are
working with UN-IOM on mid term shelter designs for the Rohingya refugee
camps in Bangladesh. Having a little science would aid our feasibility
studies.

The structures are Bamboo frames and we are looking to plaster the basal
portions of the walls to improve durability.

We have just completed the construction of a massive bamboo treatment
facility and are processing over 1000 poles per day using soaking in a 7%
solution of Borax and Boric acid. This has proven very effective in
deterring pest infestation and rotting in our trials over the past 9
months.

The shelters have concrete and metal footings to protect the posts from
ground contact. However for multiple reasons the roof overhangs are
limited, space, wind loads etc.
