Some of you, perhaps many of you, know Marc Rosenbaum personally or by
reputation. He's a total building science geek PE with particular care
for and experience in places that experience harsh winters. He's part of
South Mountain Company with John Abrams and a whole cast of good
characters, a principal of Energysmiths, and has a blog worth watching.

In the spirit of the delight of continuing education, I share this:
He's giving a free open online lecture on September 4th about heat loss
to the ground, a thing that can be perplexing. "Building heat loss to
the ground is not as straightforward as heat loss to the outdoor air. As
buildings become increasingly well insulated, understanding ground heat
loss becomes more important. This presentation is for architects,
builders, and others who want to have a better idea about how buildings
interact thermally with the ground and how to calculate heat loss to the
ground." More info and free sign up here:

He's also going to be running a deep 10-week online course (not free) on
building science, solar energy, superinsulated construction,
ventilation, renewable energy, and low energy use mechanical systems.

(You can register free to "Test Drive" the course - see a list of all
the course materials, and get access to some of the videos and assignments.)
